10 pathogens sumarry.

Write a short summary for each pathogen ( Salmonella and Shigella, L. monocytogenes, Campylobacter, Vibrio parahemolyticus and V. vulnificus, Clostridium perfringens (and C. botulinum), Norovirus and Hepatitis A virus, Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli (O157:H7), Bacillus cereus) including the following:

Describe for each presentation pathogen (1) a typical outbreak (2) symptoms

(3) briefly, the biology of the pathogen and its

epidemiology

(4) some foods implicated in outbreaks

(5) some control measures that can minimize

illnesses due to this pathogen.

Describe a typical outbreak = this can be brief

Describe symptoms = include time frame (hours, days, weeks, etc).

Biology = gram reaction, morphology, aerobe/anaerobe, etc.  Are there any special biological properties that make this organism more infectious?  Does it have a toxin?  What are the properties of the toxin? (heat stable/labile?)

Epidemiology = how many illness in the USA per year?  How many deaths per year?  Are there locations in USA that have higher incidences?

Implicated foods = what foods are most likely to be related to outbreaks of this pathogen?

Control measures = this section is very important.  What can be done to eliminate this pathogen?  What can be done to minimize this pathogen? Hand washing, cooking, fast cooling, etc

HPR205 Week 4 Discussion 1

Explain the function of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as well as how these systems work together to meet the demands of activity. Discuss the process of gas exchange as well as coronary artery disease and chronic obstructive disease and explain how these chronic diseases can lead to dysfunction of these systems.

To complete the following activity, you will need paper, a pen, and a clock or stopwatch with a second hand. To begin, take the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (PAR-Q). The PAR-Q is a screening tool to determine if a person should check with his or her doctor prior to completing an exercise program. If it is determined that you should not exercise, please find an adult (18 years of age or older) family member or friend to complete the assessment for you who has been cleared to exercise through the PAR-Q assessment. You can record the results of your partner. Measure resting heart rate (refer to page 13 of the      text on how to take a pulse).  Count your respirations in 1 minute.      Record results. If you are able to safely do so, exercise for 3 minutes      (jog in place, do jumping jacks, jump rope, push-ups, sit ups, etc.) Immediately take your pulse for 10 seconds. Record that      number.  Have your partner record your respirations for 1 minute. Rest for 5 minutes. Take your pulse again for 10      seconds. Count your breaths again for 1 minute.

In your initial post: Enter the results from the heart rate activity above. Describe the function of the cardiovascular system and      the respiratory system and how they work together. Describe how the cardiovascular system adjusts to meet      the demands of exercise. Use appropriate terminology such as stroke      volume, respirations, and pulse. Describe why an untrained person’s heart rate and      breathing rate would take longer to return to a resting rate compared to a      person who is in good physical condition. Explain the relationship between heart rate and      breathing rate during physical activity. Discuss contributing factors to coronary artery disease      (CAD).  Explain how CAD leads to dysfunction of the cardiovascular      system. Discuss contributing factors of chronic obstructive      pulmonary disease (COPD). Explain how COPD leads to dysfunction of the      respiratory system.

Use two scholarly sources (one may be your course text) to support your initial post. All sources must be referenced and cited according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length.

Guided Response: Respond to two peers; one reply should relate to CAD and the other response should pertain to COPD. Please cover the following in each response: Contrast your answers pertaining to the contributing factors for CAD/COPD with those discussed by your peer. How could environmental factors contribute to CAD/COPD? Each peer response should be at least 100 words in length and supported by one scholarly source.

Nut

We have discussed a variety of macro and micronutrients.  All are essential but the amount we need changes throughout our life cycle. For example, the best time to deposit calcium in our bones is during the first couple of decades of life. Then, as we progress through adulthood and become elderly, calcium is slowly lost from our bones.

This week, you learned about nutrient needs during life’s early years.

Initial Forum: If your last name starts with the following letter, then you will discuss the following topic for your initial post.

First Letter of Last Name

Topic

A through F

Topic 1

G through L

Topic 2

M through R

Topic 3

S through Z

Topic 4

Topic 1:  Ashleigh is a vegetarian.  She stopped eating meat and dairy products when she was 15 years old. She does eat fish and eggs, though, along with a variety of other foods. Ashleigh is now 28 years old and wants to start a family.  What nutrients should concern her?  What should she do to make sure her intake is adequate?

Topic 2: Anna has just had a baby.  Now she must decide if she should breastfeed her baby or not.  She does not want the hassle of breastfeeding, but she hears it is good for her child. Discuss the pros and cons of breastfeeding. Should you breastfed or bottle fed?

Topic 3:  Tommy is five years old, and he is a picky eater.  He prefers chicken tenders, soda, and cookies, and occasionally he will eat fruit because it is sweet.  He does not like vegetables.  What nutrients are a concern?  What should his parents do to change his eating habits?

Topic 4: Charlie is a freshman in high school and skips breakfast because he does not like to eat typical breakfast foods.  His parents are concerned because they have heard the news stories stating scientific studies show breakfast improves performance in school.  They want him to do well.  What can Charlie’s parents do to make sure he gets nutritious foods before school starts?
